Björk Breathes New Life Into Craneway Pavilion

The Craneway Pavilion provided an ideal setting for the singer's Biophilia tour — and may help the venue make a name for itself. At the Craneway, there is a sense of being on the edge of the bay — waterfront views that span the Port of Oakland, the San Francisco skyline, and parts of Marin County — and attending Björk's Biophilia tour, there is a sense of experiencing the far reaches of human existence. It is, in so many ways, an unlikely but perfect union. So how did the Craneway land its first Live Nation event?

Bjork Biophilia Live Show at the Craneway Pavilion- Summary

Stunning Venue, Intimate Setting, A once-in-a-lifetime show.

Bjork invites us all into her wacky world

The singer launched her musically-inclined scientific project in June 2011, playing in cities all over the world for a week at a time. Craneway was a first for me, but the intimate setting and impeccable sound made me grateful to be a part of what I think will be a once-in-a-lifetime show.

Bjork delights in Richmond

The Icelandic alt-rock legend, who is now 20 years into her solo career, is certainly still pushing boundaries. Her current Biophilia Tour is one of the most wildly adventurous shows in rock 'n' roll history.

Five Reasons You Should See Björk in Richmond

Craneway Pavilion has been transformed into an intimate theater in the round, with plenty of close-up standing space and tiered risers for those who want to take the scene in as a whole. If you get there early enough, you can watch a spectacular sunset over the Bay and its bridges.

Boilerhouse Rules Where Fords Once Roamed

Boilerhouse, which opened last August, has retained enough of its original factory-deco atmo to make it an eye-filling place to take a meal. The barnlike ceilings, sawtooth skylights, and factory sash windows let in plenty of natural light. Gears, pulleys, chains, and levers accent the dining room, central bar, and open kitchen. The silver-painted old boilers, exposed piping, terrazzo tabletops, and terra cotta flooring give the space a sleek, shiny look; this is a fun place to enjoy all-American brewpub-y fare while you take in the postmodern ambience, the bay views, or the game on the flatscreen TV.
