Port Public Art Project

June 08, 2013
10:30 AM - 12:30 PM

As a result of increased business activity necessitating capital improvements* at the Port of Richmond, the Arts & Culture Commission is initiating a public art project in the Port area.

Project goals are to:

  • Stimulate public interest in and enjoyment of the waterfront and its amenities
  • Use light, wind or other natural phenomena to create a place-based artwork
  • Commission a sophisticated and modern artwork that complements the activities that take place along the Bay
  • Add variety to the City’s extensive public art collection
  • Reflect the future of Richmond’s waterfront and its rich mix of industry, residences, recreation and art

Bay Area artists and Richmond residents are encouraged to attend the meeting. The discussion will include information on how to use CAFÉ, the web-based artist application service, processes that will be used to evaluate and select artists/artwork, local resources for artwork fabrication and installation, and other information regarding the public art process.

Event is free.
